MegaFon’s Engineers Introduce 4G in Russia’s Northernmost O&G Location

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, November 2, 2018. Russia’s most northernmost oil deposit/platform Messoyakhaneftegaz can now enjoy a high-speed LTE connection thanks to MegaFon, the latter’s press service reports.
Messoyakhaneftegaz teams that are currently working on Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye Deposit can use the 4G Internet connection now; it only took MegaFon 120 days to get all the work done.
Messoyakhaneftegaz works on the less easily accessible oil and gas reserves in the Arctic (the north of Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous Region), with limited access to transport and industrial infrastructure. The nearest town of Novy Urengoy is 340 km away. For most of the year, the only way to get to Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye Deposit site is by helicopter. MegaFon introduced 4G Internet connection there as part of its oil-rich territories network expansion program.
‘Harsh climate, long distances, and highly specific logistics all made this project a top-difficulty one. However, our communication engineers working in Yamal Peninsula are quite used to challenges. Thanks to efficient collaboration with Messoyakhaneftegaz’s management, we made sure the mobile Internet connection on the site is now 3.5 times faster. LTE, which is much more convenient for our end users, is also a base for high tech services such as the Internet of Things,’ says MegaFon Yamal & Yugra’s Tech Director Alexei Tashchiyev.
