December 23, 2013. MegaFon is Russia’s first mobile carrier to launch 4G network in Khanty-Mansiysky Autonomous Region. Now the residents of Nizhnevartovsk and Nefteyugansk can enjoy access to fast mobile Internet with the speed of up to 50 Mb/sec (and up to 150 Mb/sec in the future), the company’s press service says.

‘Mobile Internet is a very popular service with Yugra residents. The volume of Internet traffic in the area exceeded 4m gigabytes in this year alone. We are now offering our customers a new technology – high-speed mobile 4G Internet connection by MegaFon that is available to over 70% of residents of Nizhnevartovsk and Nefteyugansk. The 4G network coverage will be expanding considerably in the future,’ says Director of MegaFon Ural’s Surgut division Nikolai Firsov.

At the moment, MegaFon’s high-speed mobile 4G Internet connection is offered in seven cities of the Greater Urals: Kirov, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Noyabrsk, Novy Urengoy, Nizhnevartovsk, and Nefteyugansk.

The 4G technology outstrips its predecessors in that the data transfer speed is really high. Thanks to the 4G speed, MegaFon’s customers can manage the bulky content more easily and download large volumes of data easily as well as play online games and watch HD vide without the buffering time. With the 4G technology, one can download about 2 gigabytes of data in only ten minutes, which is approximately the ‘weight’ of a broad-band HD video.
