June 4, 2013. The top managers of Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation took part in the section dedicated to the ‘broad gage’ problem in the course of Strategic Partnership 1520 Business Forum in Sochi.
According to the holding’s press service, the Director-General of the corporation’s daughter company UVZ-Logistic Dmitri Yeremeyev made a report on the railway carriage manufacturers as freight forwarders and therefore on the aspects of a new business strategy. In his introductory speech, he said that the freight forwarding market and its future prospects did not look good. The lack of opportunity to renovate the fleet of carriages quickly enough while the industry keeps on developing and the freight turnover keeps on growing looks like the key risk at the moment. This is why Yeremeyev presented his vision of how to find a way out, that is, a new business strategy.
‘The railway carriage manufacturers as transportation companies are the inevitable future status dictated by the market. UVZ-Logistic’s business model is based on the fact that we sign long-term contracts with the owners first and buy the kind of carriages they need next. By the end of 2015, our company’s fleet of vehicles is expected to comprise over 50,000 items, including 35,000 gondola cars. We are currently operating some 11,000 gondola cars and cisterns. Our key aims are to make sure the railway carriage-making industry is stable, as this is the key economic segment; this can be done through using the carriage-making manufacturers’ capacity to the fullest,’ he explained.
