UVZ Logistic diversifies product range with innovative carriages

October 18, 2013. UVZ Logistic is planning to buy over 2,500 railway carriages with enhanced freight capacity of 75,000 kg from Uralvagonzavod in 2013. The freight forwarder currently operates 1,800 such carriages, but UVZ Logistic is actually expected to have 8,000 of them by the end of 2014 and to add 5,000 more carriages to this fleet every year, Uralvagonzavod's press service reports.

Buying the innovative carriages will both help the company expand its fleet of vehicles and serve as a weighty competitive advantage, as enhanced freight capacity stands for many benefits for both the consignor and the freight forwarder.

This is good for the consignor because the carriage can fit more goods while the rates are comparable with a regular, all-purpose gondola car. This is also good for the freight forwarder because of the economy of scales, decreased infrastructure workload, and fuel and electric power savings.

The design of the innovative railway carriages make the use of train-stop equipment, automatic coupling device, side walls, and other carriage components more efficient, which cuts on the cost of capital investment per unit.

Given the guaranteed amount of freight forwarding orders that will be placed by Zarechnya Coal Company, the purchase of innovative carriages looks like an expedient thing to do; the positive impact on all the market players is felt when a lot of bulk cargo gets transferred onto long distances.
Zarechnya currently produces up to 10m tons of coal a year and is expected to raise this figure by 20% next year.
