The public prosecution authorities of Sverdlovsk Region determined that the bridge located at the interception of Shevchenko St. and Vostochnaya St. in Yekaterinburg had been ordered by Blagoustroystvo, the local municipal enterprise; they decided on SverdlovskMostoStroy Ltd. as their general contractor. The construction itself was completed by workers from a building company called Mostostroitelniy Otryad 72.

The cross-bars of the second, the third, and the fourth bridge footings fell down at 5 PM on September 4, 2006 while the workers were still there. This resulted in complete destruction of bridge spans at the distance of 100 meters. The case investigator, accompanied by the experts from the state inspectorate for architecture and construction, is currently examining the scene.

According to the spokesperson for the Mayor, all the projects completed by Mostostroitelniy Otryad 72 will be examined in the nearest future, since this company put up almost all the bridges in the city throughout the last 15 years, including the fallen one.

The damage caused by this accident is estimated at 200m RUR.
