12 March 2007 (15:28)

The public prosecution authorities of Ural Federal District completed the investigation of the criminal suit regarding the downfall of the bridge constructed at the intersection of Shevchenko St., Vostochnaya St., and Sovetskaya St. in Yekaterinburg on September 4, 2006, reports their press officer.

The inquiry revealed that due to the negligence of the director of Blagoustroistvo Municipal Enterprise (the company that ordered the bridge to be designed and constructed), all the building and assembly jobs had been performed without a building permit and on the basis of documents that were never approved of by a state expert committee, which violates Russian town-planning legislation.

As a result, failing to comply with the technical requirements at the designing stage and consequent mistakes that nobody tried to fix led to the bridge failure with more than 38 million RUR worth of damage.

The director of Blagoustroistvo was charged with criminal negligence; Deputy Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Yu. Zolotov completed his report on March 9, 2007 and placed it with the court that is now to decide on the punishment for the accused.
