UrBC, Magnitogorsk, January 20, 2020. G.I. Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University coordinated a press tour for the local media reporters on Russian Press Day.

According to Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) Information & PR Department, MSTU representatives talked about their research and the university’s collaboration with MMK.

‘The reporters went to ThermoDeform-MSTU Engineering Center. The center mainly works to develop advanced technologies that will get launched at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works in the near future,’ the company says.

The reporters could take a look at experimental steel samples, a vacuum induction furnace, a CC machine integrated into a single system with the furnace, and a rolling mill, all of which represents a simplified model of the production cycle.

‘This set of appliances relies on the same tech modes and parameters as the ones prescribed by the actual production process regulations at the plant: the same steel-pouring rate, rolling force, thermal treatment, and most importantly, the chemical composition of the steel. The latter can get modified so as to produce custom-made steels,’ says Director at ThermoDeform-MSTU Engineering Center Pavel Poletskov.

The center also developed a range of heavy-duty, wear-resistant steels MMK now makes and brands as MAGSTRONG.

The reporters also went to the nano-steel research institute at MSTU and got acquainted with the projects the university’s Innovative Center is working on, including soft passive exoskeletons designed for industrial workers.
