UrBC, Magnitogorsk, July 17, 2019. A new automated boiler settings adjustment system has been introduced at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) power stations recently; the savings are estimated to come to more than RUB 85m a year.

According to the company’s press service, the new system will ensure a more efficient use of energy resources and will also reduce harmful air emissions greatly.

The system has been designed and launched by experts from MMK Senior Energy Engineer’s Department in cooperation with MMK United Service Company (USC) and South Ural State University as part of the company’s Industry 4.0 Strategic Initiative. The system now controls eight boilers at Central Power Station and two boilers at Central Heating and Power Plant. An extension of the system is now being added to Central Heating and Power Plant as well.

‘The launch of the automated settings control system for the boilers means that the plant will be using less natural gas and that the boilers’ performance will grow substantially more reliable. Besides, the system ensures a drop in CO and NOx emissions through flexible settings adjustments and reducing the amount of time the equipment works in peak load operating regime,’ the press service says.

The system is expected to pay off in under two years.
