UrBC, Moscow, July 4, 2019. MegaFon operates more base stations in Russia than any other telecom company, Roskomnadzor announced at the end of May 2019. The company runs over 238,520 communication units, including 98,100 4G stations (many more than MegaFon’s competitors currently have), the company’s press service reports.

In Russia on the whole, the number of 4G base stations increased by 16% in the first five months of 2019 and reached 283,400 units, Roskomnadzor’s report states. MegaFon owns more 4G base stations that any other ISP or mobile carrier: 98,100. The company’s rivals from the Big 4 have 67,900, 65,200, and 52,300 stations.

According to Chief Technology and Infrastructure Officer at MegaFon Frederic Vanoosthuyze, the company offers the widest network coverage and the highest data transfer speed in Russia. Roskomnadzor confirmed in its report that MegaFon is the market leader in terms of the number of LTE base stations and the overall number of base stations. The international research company Ookla has singled out MegaFon as the No.1 ISP with the fastest mobile connection in Russia for several years in a row now. This proves that the company’s customers, as well as independent telecom market professionals both in Russia and all over the world, can appreciate MegaFon’s investments in network development and smart infrastructure settings.

MegaFon is present even in Russia’s remotest and most exotic locations. The company runs a base station in Vostochny space launch site, within 500 meters of the rocket launch spot; a wind-operated station in Kola Peninsula, in the middle of the tundra; and a station in Sabetta, right on the coast of the Arctic Ocean.
