MegaFon Has Russia’s Speediest Internet Connection

5 July 2019 (12:07)

UrBC, Moscow, July 5, 2019. According to the international research company Ookla’s recent findings, MegaFon currently offers its customers the fastest Internet connection in Russia, with its average data transfer speed exceeding that of its immediate competitor by 1.5 times, the telecom company’s press service reports.

MegaFon’s average download speed comes to more than 25.94 Mb/sec and the average upload speed comes to 11.59 Mb/sec. Ookla’s independent research continues on a yearly basis; in Russia, more than 7.9m speed tests were made on more than 1.5 different mobile devices (via the mobile app SpeedTest®) in the first half of 2019.

‘The outstanding speed of our Internet connection means MegaFon’s customers can download and listen to music, watch videos, look at photos, use messenger services and social networks and exchange files of any size much faster than usual. For example, a film that is normally some 700 Mb large can get fully downloaded in under three minutes at 25 Mb/sec or watched online without any frozen screen issues,’ the press service says.

Ookla® has singled MegaFon out as the telecom company with the speediest Internet connection in Russia for the third year in a row. What matters to customers is both the high speed of file upload/download and the availability of the service, that is, the coverage in the area where a gadget gets used. In this latter respect, MegaFon has also been the market leader for a number of years now: the company operates over 235,000 base stations, Roskomnadzor says, and this is actually more stations than what is owned by any other telecom company in Russia.
