UrBC, Yekaterinburg, March 21, 2019. MegaFon’s infrastructure sustained all the peak loads and performed as usual during the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. The company’s 4G connection was about 20 Mbps fast on average; Yenisey Stadium, with tits 279 Mbps, had the fastest traffic of all, the company’s press service reports.

‘Every one in twenty students from the Urals went to take part in the Krasnoyarsk event. These 2019 Winter Universiade games proved the most large-scale mobile social function in Siberia’s entire record of public events,’ the press service says.

Every MegaFon Ural customer coming to Krasnoyarsk spent an average of 2.5 hours making voice calls and used the amount of traffic equivalent to uploading 500 high-resolution images onto social networks.

According to MegaFon, people from 69 different countries joined the games, travelers from the more exotic Ghana, Cameroon, and Côte d’Ivoire among them. U.S. nationals, as well as visitors from China and Finland, proved both the most active and the most numerous traffic users.

MegaFon started getting ready for the games one year before the takeoff. 40 new base stations got build and 20 more upgraded; the company also introduced four portable base stations to ensure quality connection; finally, a new line got launched along the way to the airport to ensure full 4G coverage there.
