MegaFon Ural Subscribers Set Traffic Record

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 6, 2017. The telecommunications provider MegaFon’s subscribers set a traffic download record on December 2, 2017 when they watched the World Cup 2018 draw's live broadcast and talked about its outcome afterwards, MegaFon Ural’s press service reports.

The users generated enough traffic every hour to equal watching 15,000 games of football. Among the big-city dwellers, the biggest fans watching the draw online happened to be located in Yekaterinburg, Perm, and Tyumen, where the traffic rose by 33%. VKontakte proved to be the most preferred social network for this.

People based in smaller settlements proved the most active smartphone-using online World Cup draw followers. For one, users based in Valerianovsk, Sverdlovsk Oblast, used six times more traffic than usual on that day.

MegaFon offered an online broadcast through its MegaFon.TV for those football fanatics who couldn’t watch the event on television. Thanks to good quality connection and high 4G speed, thousands of viewers anywhere in the world could learn who Russia was to play against, and share the news on social networks.
