UrBC, Yekaterinburg, February 15, 2019. EVRAZ Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ NTMK) chose the suppliers to deliver the equipment required for its Blast Furnace 6 upgrades, EVRAZ Holding Ural’s Corporate Relations Center reports.
‘We signed a number of contracts for the delivery of technological equipment and automation appliances for the furnace. The blast furnace is expected to get re-launched in October 2020. The entire retooling project will require $150m in investments,’ the Center says.
The better part of the tech equipment will get supplied by PAUL WURTH S.A., the global leader on the engineering and tech solutions for metallurgical companies market. The contract was signed by EVRAZ NTMK Managing Director Alexei Kushnarev and Vice President of PAUL WURTH S.A. Jörg Brinkmann. The company is going to supply to EVRAZ all the appliances for the blast furnace sand bed, the bell-less top, the gas-filtering appliances, refractory lining components, and copper coolers.
The automation appliances and electric equipment will get supplied by the intentional operator Primetals Technologies, the successor of EVRAZ NTMK’s long-time partner Siemens VAI. The contract was signed by EVRAZ NTMK Managing Director Alexei Kushnarev and Primetals Technologies’ Vice President. The automation appliances are expected to reduce the blast furnace’s coke spending.
‘Upgrading Blast Furnace 6 will mean we’ll be able to make cast iron with two up-to-date furnaces. Once the blast furnace has been relaunched, we’ll shut down the worn-out Blast Furnace 5 and will thus reduce our environmental impact considerably,’ says EVRAZ NTMK Managing Director Alexei Kushnarev.
The equipment will start arriving at the plant in the third quarter of 2019 and throughout the year 2020.
