EVRAZ NTMK To Use Waste Energy

18 June 2019 (09:28)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, June 18, 2019. EVRAZ Holding’s Nizhniy Tagil Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ NTMK) intends to expand its electric power output by using secondary energy resources (i.e the blast furnace gas that is the by-product of cast iron smelting at Blast Furnace 7), EVRAZ Holding Ural’s Corporate Communications Center reports.

‘The plan is to put up a gas expansion turbine station with the top-pressure recovery turbine GUBT 16, a generator unit, and an electric grid. There will also be the modern automated gas-analyzing units and fire-fighting appliances. The blast furnace gas will get delivered into the turbine, with the energy coming from the gas-pressure transforming into electric power. This is the first time this equipment is getting installed at EVRAZ NTMK; the new appliances meet the strictest environmental requirements currently in place. This tech solution will also cut down on the prime cost of our produce and the cost of electric power we buy from external suppliers,’ the plant says.

The construction site has been prepared and the contracts for equipment delivery have been signed by now; the plant is currently working to finish the project documentation. The project will require $18m to complete, with the launch of the turbine scheduled for the second half of 2020.

At the moment, EVRAZ NTMK is already covering its own electric power needs 75%.
