EVRAZ KGOK Launches New Loco NP1

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, February 4, 2019. EVRAZ Holding’s Kachkanar Ore Mining and Processing Plant (KGOK) launched its new NP1 locomotive and two motor-operated dump cars this month; the equipment was made at Novocherkassk Plant.
According to EVRAZ Holding Ural’s Corporate Relations Center, NP 1 locomotives are specifically suited for deep, complicated mines. This particular traction unit (tractive power: 1,000,000+ kg; speed: up to 65 km/h; operational safety: four braking systems) was designed specially for EVRAZ KGOK.
‘NP1 units are very comfortable to operate: the operator’s pit is made to be wider than the rest of the loco body to ensure a better viewing angle, is air conditioned, and has two operation panels, a washbasin, a fridge, and a wardrobe; the loco body gets aired both naturally and through manmade appliances,’ the Center says.
The new equipment meets all the modern standards for open-cast mining operations. The loco is 65 meters long and weighs 360,000 kg.
The unit will be used to transport ore from Main, Northern, Western, and Southern Mines onto the crushing plant and to take the mining waster onto the mine dump.
Now one loco and eleven dump cars handle around 8,000,000 kg of ROM a day.
