UrBC, Chelyabinsk, October 10, 2018. Governor of Chelyabinsk Region Boris Dubrovsky informed Plenipotentiary Representative of Russian Federation President in Ural Federal District Nikolai Tsukanov about the current state of affairs in the area. The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS summits in Chelyabinsk were a special topic in their conversation, Southern Urals Government’s press service reports.

Governor Dubrovsky said the summit preparations were in full progress and right on schedule, with no setbacks whatsoever.

‘We have work meetings and site inspections on a weekly basis. The reconstruction of our airport infrastructure, including the runway, is one crucial issue. The Russian Government decided that the funding for this would be provided earlier than the years 2020 and 2021 that were planned originally,’ Dubrovsky said.

As a matter of fact, the Governor appealed to the federal authorities earlier, asking to speed up the funding for Chelyabinsk Airport. The Transport Ministry, the Finance Ministry, and the Economic Development Ministry all had to look into the issue. Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev declared last week that around RUR 1bn would be allocated for the project as soon as this year and the year 2019.
