25 September 2018 (09:34)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, September 25, 2018. The annual cycling race that nuclear industry workers take part in took place in Yekaterinburg on September 22. The race usually involves some radiation level checks; for the first time this year, the event went through in a quest format, Yekaterinburg Nuclear Energy Information Center’s press service reports.
Employees of AO SverdNIIKhimmash, Ural Electromechanical Plant, Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Station, AO Reactor Material Institute, and Sverdlovsk Region’s division of RosRAO in Ural Federal District all took part in the race alongside Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk Region locals.
Seven stations got set up along the route where the cyclists had to complete a challenge that helped them find the right spot for doing a radiation level check. To complete the challenge, they had to rely on their knowledge of the nuclear industry’s history and of modern technologies.
The stations were strategically located in Yekaterinburg’s historic quarters’ most interesting sites. The nuclear industry workers helped other cyclists learn more about natural radiation and the impact it has on the human body.
