UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 13, 2018. Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Station’s Power-Generating Unit 4 first got connected to Sverdlovsk Region’s power grid three years ago this month (December 10, 2015). The unit has produced 13.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electric power since then, Beloyarskaya’s press service reports.

The power-generating unit with its BN-800 reactor has operated safely and reliably throughout these three years. Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Station’s Director Ivan Sidorov commented on the importance of their BN-800 unit for the Russian nuclear industry:

‘This power-generating unit with its BN-800 reactor is the first fast-breeder unit that got built in post-Soviet Russia, under totally new economic conditions. Putting up the unit has meant the Russian nuclear industry engineers could re-gain their designing, constructing, and launching skills where this reactor type is concerned. This is a crucial step on the way to creating even more powerful commercial fast-breeder reactors and, ultimately, to a nuclear fuel cycle closure,’ he said.

Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Station’s Power-Generating Unit 4 is currently the world’s largest power unit with a FNR reactor. BN-800 is now among the world’s best nuclear reactors in terms of safety and dependability.
