UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 22, 2017. Sinara Group’s/ Sinara Transport Machines’ Ural Diesem Motor Plant (UDMZ) and Zvezda set up a joint venture meant for making high-speed engines on a serial scale, Sinara Group’s PR Center reports.

According to Russia’s Minister for Industry & Trade Denis Manturov, setting up a leading national engine-building plant is the first step necessary to start making new-generation Russian engines that will be fully comparable with their foreign counterparts and will prove even better than those in certain respects.

‘The key thing is that UMDZ and Zvezda have collaborated in the past, working together on a number of scientific research and R&D projects by order of Russia’s Industry & Trade Ministry. This was part of the Federal Special-Purpose M 150/DM 185 High-Speed Engine Development Program. Our diesel engines in the 350- to 7,500-kilowatt range are widely used in the rolling stock manufacturing, heavy-duty vehicle making, autonomous power engineering, and in drilling, compression, and pumping equipment manufacturing,’ Manturov said.

The plant will operate at two production sites in Saint Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. The HQs will be located in Saint Petersburg; the plant will get launched on January 1, 2018. The goal is to for the plant to be making up to 770 diesel engines in various modifications a year by 2022. The project will have required around RUR 19bn in investments by 2025.
