Yekaterinburg Arena Gets Green Lawn

2 August 2017 (13:20)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 2, 2017. Yekaterinburg Arena, currently under reconstruction in time for the World Cup 2018 by Sinara Group’s Sinara Development, will soon have a naturally grown green lawn. The first seeds were sown in the course of a special ceremony by Vice Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Sergey Shvindt, Head of Yekaterinburg Council Alexander Yakob, and Sinara Group’s Director-General Mikhail Khodorovskiy.

According to Sinara Group’s press service, it will take two different steps to get the lawn done. First, 400 kg of perennial Kentucky Bluegrass seeds (selected to get adjusted to the Urals’ climate) will be sown, with the first shoots expected within two weeks’ time. Next, 200 kg of domestic ryegrass will be added to the lawn. Special sensors will keep testing the field for humidity and temperature, and experts will keep an eye on the growth, watering, and fertilizing routines.

The lawn area will get fortified with artificial fiber, which process will begin in late August. Every 2 cm2 of the entire surface will get sown through with fiber in order to improve the pitch performance and make its maintenance easier. This is the technology currently applied at all modern-day football arenas.
