August 5, 2014. Advanced technological developments will be used to prepare training pitches in Yekaterinburg in time for the world football championship of 2018.

The city council’s press service reports the use of innovative technologies has to do with the high FIFA standards the football pitches must meet.

For one, the authorities are planning to introduce a warm-up system at the training pitch of Kalininets Sports Club; the system will include a heating unit, some collectors, and polyethylene pipes that will be fitted under the lawn.

Builders are considering a water-based solution of ethylene glycol (30% to 42% strong) as the heat-transfer medium. Special temperature sensors will be built into the soil and will maintain the necessary surface temperature automatically. As a result, the lawn surface temperature will stay at about zero degrees centigrade (15 to 20 degrees around the pipe locations within the soil).

Heating football pitches with fluid agents is much better than with the help of other technologies such as electricity because the temperature of the fluid itself is quite moderate, which creates favorable conditions for the root system of the lawn and makes it possible to set and maintain precisely the necessary temperature depending on outdoor conditions.
