Ural Vagon Zavod Designs New Railcar

18 July 2016 (12:27)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, July 18, 2016. Ural Vagon Zavod Corporation got its new railcar, a close-top loose cargo gondola type 12-5190, certified; the railcar is meant for coal, ore, and other loose goods, the company press service reports.

The new gondola car was designed by the corporation’s Ural Railcar Building Design Office according to technical specifications provided by Russia’s largest coal company SUEK. The railcar is mounted on a 25,000-kg-strong base 18-194-1; this base has already been used successfully at Ural Vagon Zavod’s drop-bottom gondolas 12-196-01 for over six years now.

The gondola’s capacity is estimated at 77,000 kg/95 m3.

These new makes are meant for transferring coal and ore exports to sea ports; they are fitted with railcar dumpers or clam-shell loading devices, and its two wall slots and an even inner surface reduce the risk of damage by a clam-shell loader. This is one big advantage, given the current statistics on damage done to railcars at sea ports.
