October 15, 2014. Uraltransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) was visited by Assistant to Governor of Volgograd Region Vasiliy Galushkin and Director-General of Metroelectrotrans Nikolai Zhukov. The visitors had a chance to look at the enterprise’s tram-making facility, Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s press service reports.

During their meeting with Uraltransmash DG Alexei Nosov, the officials talked about modernization of urban public transport and inter-industrial cooperation in the field of light-rail vehicle development as well as about preparation for the World Cup 2018.

Volgograd’s MetroElectroTrans Municipal Unitary Enterprise is one of Russia’s oldest public transport companies (the 100th anniversary was celebrated in April 2013) that comprises two tram depots, three trolleybus ones, and one tram/trolleybus one. Every day, the city’s public transport offers its services to some 400,000 passengers. 300 one-section tramways are operated on 13 routes whose total length comes to 131.7 km; over a half of these 300 trams are more than 35 years old.

As soon as this fall, two of Uraltransmash’s trams – the improved versions of 71-407-01 and 71-409-01 – will undergo maintenance testing in Volgograd.
