October 29, 2014. Uralvagonzavod Corporation is going to present its R1 tram at the international exhibition ExpoCityTrans in Moscow, the corporation’s press service says.
‘Visitors to the exhibition can form their opinions of the exterior and interior design, ask the tram designers their questions, and look at the solutions that haven’t yet been presented to the general public,’ the press service says.
R1 is Russia’s first 100% low-floor three-sectional tramway that was developed jointly by Uraltransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) and Atom Design Office.
‘The design of the tram rests on the idea that it should fit into an urban landscape. A means of public transport, a tram is at the same time a part of the city’s architectural image that can change our stereotypes about and our attitude towards public transport entirely. The formula behind the tram’s design reads, ‘Vehicle + Architecture = Vehitecture’. This a synthetically coined term that reflects the new, interdisciplinary field and transport design and architecture within which the concept of R1 was created. The metaphor and the leading motive behind the shape of R1 is the black Ural semi-precious stone in metallic setting, whose mirror-like surface literally reflects the city and becomes its integral part,’ the press service says.
