Yekaterinburg Red Line to get its own infrastructure

May 20, 2013. Deputy Mayor of Yekaterinburg for National Events Coordination Sergey Tushin said Yekaterinburg Red Line might acquire its own infrastructure in the nearest future.

The Red Line is more than just a red line on painted on the asphalt. This is an important project that is starting to acquire its own infrastructure. For one, all of Yekaterinburg’s information kiosks are supposed to be linked to the Red Line system. A number of local maps also display the Red Line on them, and this year, a municipal program on ‘coding’ the buildings began. The idea is to assign a QR code to all the historic buildings and monuments that will contain information about the building for all those interested. Also, all the streets and public transport stops in Yekaterinburg are gradually being given a second name plate in English. The stops and streets along the Red Line route get these name plates before every other place,’ Tushin said.

The Deputy Mayor also said he would like the Red Line to extend so far as the ExpoShowPark.

‘As you all know, our city is one of the EXPO 2020 hosting candidates. Yekaterinburg has pretty good chances, and if we win, it will be great to have the line run up to the expo park,’ Sergey Tushin noted.
