UrBC, Yekaterinburg, July 19, 2019. The construction of tram links connecting Yekaterinburg’s District Akademicheskiy to the city’s central locations and Solnechny to Vtorchermet will begin next year, the town council’s website says.

A temporary ring road with a final stop in Preobrazhensky Park and a tram line along Wilhelm de Gennin St, Serafima Deryabina St, and Volgogradskaya St (total lengh: 4 km) will get built first. The line will then gent extended to Tatishchev St and will reach 6.7 km in length.

The plan necessitates a number of major changes in the urban motorway network in the south-west of Yekaterinburg. The idea is to set up a tram line in Wilhelm de Gennin St (between a local road and the mainline in the eastern part of the street) that will morph into a dividing strip within 300 meters of the junction in the belt route (currently under construction). From that point on, the tram line will go under the overhead roads in Volgogradskaya St all the way to the junction in Gurzufskaya St/Repin St and in the dividing strip in Tokarey St all the way to Tatishchev St. In the medium term, the tram line will also get extended to Vavilov St and Akademik Sakharov St. Eleven new tram stops and pedestrian crossings with streetlights will have to get built as well.
