Uralvagonzavod to Manufacture New Underground Train

10 December 2012 (10:10)

December 10, 2012 A special session initiated by Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation was coordinated within the framework of Russia’s Transport 2012 Forum. During the session, both Russian and foreign manufacturers, government officials, and forwarding companies representatives talked about the advantages of railway vehicles and about their future, the Corporation’s press service reports.

Bombardier Transportation Senior Director for New Business Development Flavio Canetti gave a speech on the innovational and efficient solutions for the Moscow Underground. A lot of the solutions presented in his new underground train project are above the minimum technical requirements laid out in the tender that Moscow is currently coordinating among the underground carriage suppliers. For one, the expanded door frame will mean the passenger entry and exit times will halve, while the new air distribution system will create some nice, even climate inside the entire carriage.

The new underground train is to be manufactured by Uralvagonzavod Corporation using Bombardier’s technologies. According to Uralvagonzavod’s Director-General Oleg Sienko, the same approach will be used for making up-to-date high-speed trams. Sienko said he was positive that the public transport modernization program in Moscow that would involve the world’s largest manufacturers would both shape the capital’s image for the following three decades and would set an example for the other Russian cities.
