Pervouralsk Metallurgical College Stops Accepting Student Applications

Pervouralsk Metallurgical College stopped accepting applications from the potential day-time students. Metal Working Process (the major specialization of the Future of the White Metallurgy Program) proved the most popular specialization, with 16 people competing for one student slot, ChTPZ Group’s Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant reports.
The highly skilled experts get trained on a basis of a dual education system. Last year, five applicants competed for one position.
This year, the college processed 600 applications from 9th and 11th year high school students for 150 budget-funded student slots. The number of applicants from other towns rose by nearly 40% this year: young people arrived from Bashkortostan, Yekaterinburg, Novoutkinsk, Staroutkinsk, Neftekamsk, Novouralsk, Sloboda, Krasnoufimsk, Tavda, and Revda.
‘Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant and our college coordinated a dual system education process when students get some practical training over a half of their learning time. The project became very well-known in the course of one year. Some famous people visited the college, and our students took part in some quite top-level proceedings. The exhibition Innoprom 2012 was one such event: Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev met some of our students in person. Large-scale media carried some news on the project, and ChTPZ Group made a documentary about us. As a result, the students for some schools that had a tour of the college submitted their applications en masse,’ says the college Director Irina Teslina.
The rating of the most popular specializations has changed dramatically this year. The top ones are the metallurgical specializations now and not the humanities, the economic ones, or even the building ones. Economics & Accounting was replaced by Heating Supply and Heating Equipment, while Applied Computer Science is now Applied Computer Science in Metallurgy.
