Authorities inspect ore mining enterprises

1 June 2010 (09:18)

Sverdlovsk Region’s public prosecution authorities, experts from the regional division of Rostechnadzor (the state environmental, technological, and nuclear safety watchdog), and officers of Sverdlovsk Region State Labor Inspectorate started inspecting all of the region’s ore mining enterprises.

The inspection has to do with the recent large-scale fatal accidents at Raspadskaya mine in Kemerov Region.

First of all, the checks will include an evaluation of the management’s performance in terms of creating safe and healthy working conditions for the miners and other employees. Also, the inspectors will make sure all the companies have all the equipment necessary to control the production process, and they will check that this machinery is fault-free. Finally, the inspecting officials will look into the causes of fires and breakdowns in the mines and will see if the existing preventive measures are sufficient.

The inspectors also intend to look into how efficiently the regional authorities keep making sure that all the industrial safety and labor protection regulations are complied with in the local mines.

Sverdlovsk Region currently hosts a number of enterprises belonging to two ore-mining giants: UC RUSAL and Evraz Group.
