Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) keeps putting up its cold-rolling Mill 2000 within the framework of the company’s cold-rolling facilities investment project.

The mill is mainly meant for the production of high-quality cold-rolled and zinc-coated automobile body sheets as well as of materials for home appliances manufacturers and for the building industry. The facility’s capacity has been estimated at 2 million tons of goods a year.

According to MMK’s PR Department, the workers have nearly completed the excavation and are now putting up equipment foundations as well as making and assembling the main building’s metal framework. Also, the construction of the electric machine shops is now in full swing, with the builders currently working on substation No. 23.

Over 1,000 workers turn up on the construction site every day. The project’s general contractors are ZAO Stroitelniy Complex, OOO Maglin, OAO Prokatmontazh, OAO PO Montazhnik, and ZAO Mekhanoremontniy Complex. The project’s chief designer is OAO Magnitogorsk Gipromez.

Over 11,000 out of 39,000 tons of machinery needed for the mill has already been delivered to the plant. The equipment is mostly supplied y SMS-Siemag, the German machine-building concern. Mill 2000 is expected to have been launched by the end of next year.
