MMK to assemble Mill 2000

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, August 23, 2010. OAO Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) keeps working on its cold roll Mill 2000 within the framework of the corporate investment project on putting up a cold-roll facility.
The new mill is primarily meant for the production of high quality cold-rolled and zinc-coated products for the automobile industry as well as for home appliances manufacturers and the construction business. The estimated capacity of the cold roll facility comes to 2 million tons of goods a year.
The workers have already started assembling the technological components of the mill in the specially prepared and closed sections of the production shop. All the jobs are carried out in accordance with the schedule. According to MMK Management Company First Vice President for Strategic Development & Metallurgy Rafkat Takhautdinov, the first section – a continuous pickling line combined with a tandem-drawing machine – will probably be launched on Metallurgist’s Day in 2011. Starting next summer, the shop will be producing the goods that have no Russian counterparts as of yet.
MMK PR Department reports Mill 2000 construction site can now boast a foundation of the main building and the nearly completed assembly jobs and the metalwork. In addition, the roof work is done by over a third, alongside with the machinery foundations. The enterprise has already received 50% of the 40,500 tons of the machinery (supplied mainly by SMS Demag, the German machine-building concern. About 2,000 tons of the equipment got assembled.
Over 1,200 people arrive to work on site every day. The project’s general contractors are ZAO Stroitelniy Complex, OOO Maglin, OAO Prokatmontazh, OAO PO Montazhnik, ZAO Mechanoremontniy Complex; the project’s chief designer is OAO Magnitogorsk Gipromez.
