Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) keeps working on its unique Mill 2000 within the framework of the cold roll facilities investment project.

According to MMK PR Department, the construction site is now full of builders working on the foundations for the etching department machinery and for the mill itself; they are also making and assembling the metal framework for the main building and have already started constructing the electric machine rooms and power substation 23. The enterprise has already received about 11,500 out of 38,000 tons worth of equipment related to Mill 2000. The new cold roll shop will probably be launched at the end of 2011.

MMK signed the contract for the delivery of Mill 2000 cold roll machinery (with the capacity of 2 million tons of produce a year) with SMS-Demag, the German machine-building concern, in July 2007. This cold roll facility is mainly meant for the production of great quality cold-rolled and galvanized products in accordance with the latest high technologies. The products are meant to be used for making the inner and outer car parts and white goods as well as in the building industry.
