Region’s IPI falls 22.8%

In July 2009, Sverdlovsk Region’s industrial production index only reached 77.2% of the figures recorded in July 2008 and only 88.9% of the figures for June 2009, the region’s Ministry for Economy and Labor reports, referring to the data provided by the local division of the Federal State Statistics Service.

As for the period of January to July 2009, the IPI amounted to 74.8% of the figures recorded a year earlier; these figures include a 16.5% drop in the mineral resources output, a 27.8% drop in the manufacturing enterprises’ output, and a 13.4% decrease in the production and distribution of electricity, natural gas, and water.

Among the manufacturing enterprises that suffered most were the metallurgical companies, whose outputs nosedived by 42.8%, non-metallic mineral products manufacturers, whose output went down by 40%, the machine-building industries, whose output plunged by 31.8%, and the mineral resource miners, whose output declined by 36.4%.
