Trunk road for new district to be constructed in Yekaterinburg

7 June 2007 (13:44)

A new trunk road meant for providing a link between the future Academic district and the central and south-western parts of the city is currently under construction in Yekaterinburg. On behalf of the city council, Blagoustroystvo (a municipal enterprise) is routing the road in Serafima Deryabina St. through the South-Western Park, the spokesperson for RENOVA Stroy Group reports.

The new road is part of the complex Academic construction project. This is going to become a six-way highway allowing for 80 kph, equipped with a three-meter bicycle track and a 4.5-meter sidewalk. Eventually, a tram line leading to Communary Square will also be created there. Remarkably, the design of all the prospective roads in the future district provides for a 30% increase in traffic expected in 2025, the spokesperson observes.

Even though some trees in the South-Western Park will have to be removed in order to build the road, the process is going to be strictly controlled and will only affect specifically designed areas. Then, RENOVA Stroy Group and the council of Leninskiy district intend to create nice pedestrian walks and play areas in the park.

The Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being Agency reports the introduction of a highway next to the park is not going to influence the area or the city’s environment; moreover, the project presupposes that a large 60-hectare park will be created in the center of Academic district, with two wedges of greenery connecting this park with the two larger ones surrounding the district. All this is expected to create a harmonious mix of offices and dwellings woven into the green by the side of the River Patrushikha fringed with pedestrian walks.

RENOVA Stroy Group has already received all the permits needed to start the construction of the road; the building is expected to have been finished by the end of 2008, just when the new district is estimated to be able to welcome its first dwellers.
