Overhaul of winder completed at Kazskiy subsidiary of Evrazruda

3 November 2006 (12:56)

The 51-day overhaul consisting in the replacement of the drum of the winder has been completed at Kazskiy subsidiary of Evrazruda (ore maker and part of Evraz Group).

This overhaul is quite unique in that this is the first replacement of such a bulky obsolete item in the company’s history. The drum shaft weighs 34 tons, the main part weighs 70 tons, and the diameter of the drum is 5 meters. It was actually delivered on the premises of the company on three railway platforms.

In the course of the overhaul, the company’s general contractor, NSK Novokuznetsk Ltd., applied the original yet simple way of replacing and assembling the shaft with the help of a monkey engine and thrusters. After the old drum was dismantled in little portions, the new equipment was transferred to the machinery hall through an opening in the wall using the specially constructed bridge. The new drum was assembled and welded there.

The assembling of the brakes, protective covers, and casings of the winders as well as rope installation were performed by the workers from Kazskiy, with the setup completed by SibEnergoCherMet Scientific Production Enterprise of Novokuznetsk. On November 2, 2006, the winder of the Main Groove meant for transporting the ore-loaded trolleys from the mine onto the surface was put into operation.

There are four winders in two of the subsidiary’s grooves altogether that are essential to its reliable performance, reports the spokesperson for Evrazruda.
