Rescue teams are still operating at the site of an air-gas mixture explosion in UralCement JSC (based in the village of Pervomayskaya in Korkino District).

On October 29, 2006, an air-gas mixture explosion occurred at No. 2 firing house of UralCement JSC. The explosion had been caused by a sudden gas pressure jump that resulted in a gas escape and a gas bolt fracture at the technological gas pipeline. The explosion destroyed the kiln control center and caused a collapse of the reinforced concrete constructions on area of 2,000 square meters. At the moment of explosion, 11 company employees were at the firing shop. Ten of them escaped on their own, location and health status of the eleventh person (a 37-year-old man) is unknown.

According to Chelyabinsk Region Department of Emergencies, they are still looking for this person. The rescuers have examined most of the area where the victim of the accident might be located, but to no avail. Since yesterday, the teams have been employing the heavies; special cranes are removing bulky structures and logjams from above in order to clean up the way for the rescuers. In addition, two experts from Chelyabinsk Municipal Rescue Service with specially trained dogs arrived upon the scene at 12 AM on November 1. The dogs indicated the potential spot where the lost person might be found, so this area is now being examined.

The heavies and people are taking turns now; most of logjams that could be dealt with manually have already been eliminated. The local teams are also assisted by the rescuers from Troitsk; the operations take place at night as well as during the day, with over 30 people employed. They will keep searching for the person until they find him.
