Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil uses medical equipment designed for astronauts to do employee checkups

A new colour ultrasound HDI-5000 diagnostic machine has recently been installed at the medical center of Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil (part of Evraz Graoup). It is much more sensitive and has a better ‘vision’ than the earlier generation devices, this is why the machine can trace a whole range of various diseases at a very early stage as well as examine the viscera and blood vessels.

This new diagnostic system is quite unique. The company’s medical center is now the only place in Nizhniy Tagil that actually has it, as such devices used to be only installed in major medical centers. It is also employed at the International orbital station where it provides high-precision data on health of astronauts from Russia, the U.S., Canada, Japan and the European countries. Now the same equipment will be used for the checkups of the company’s personnel.

The diagnostic machine will be used for more thorough examinations as well, when the health problem has to do with heart diseases. The employees from the so-called high-risk group will be able to have extra testing and examination free of charge. The corresponding amendment will probably be made to the corporate collective agreement for the years 2007 and 2006, reports their spokesperson.
