Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhny Tagil JSC (part of Evraz Group) has recently put into operation the new overhead converter to be used in the oxygen-converter shop. The converter is meant for fringing metal slabs and needed for full examination of the produce of No 4 continuous casting unit.
According to the company’s spokesperson, the converter was designed in the oxygen-converter shop and in the plant engineer administration, even though the contract concerning the construction of the continuous casting unit did not include the converter as the obligatory component of the system. The continuous casting unit started operating in July 2004 and the company’s metallurgists eventually felt the need for improving the slab examination techniques; the construction of the converter took six months.
