Circulating degasifying facility to be installed in converter shop of Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil

A circulating degasifying facility is going to be installed in the converter shop of Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil (part of Evraz Group). The machine is almost ready to start operating, with the company’s technicians finishing the assembling of the main blocks and the power supplying system. The equipment was supplied by SMS Mevag of Germany as a few departments of this machine building concern have already taken part in a number of investment project carried out by the Complex.

‘The facility is meant for removing harmful gases obtained in the process of heat from the liquid steel; this improves the quality of the product as well as that of the ready rolled metal. Nowadays, 100% of all metal used in transportation industry and steel meant for tube and pipe ingots has to be degasified; this is what our customers demand. Our converter shop already has one degasifying facility build in cooperation with Voest-Alpine; the new unit will make it possible to raise the shop’s productivity and make degasifying process more reliable. Its capacity is estimated at 1.5m tons of steel a year, reports the spokesperson for Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil.
