10 March 2006 (11:58)

The total budget of the company’s projected investments comprises $1.1 billion RUR throughout 2006-2010. The better part of money ($750 million) is to be given to the mining segment, the rest is to go to the metallurgical segment.

According to the company’s spokesperson, the metallurgical projects are targeted at the efficiency rise while keeping up with the current output; they will mainly be fulfilled at Metallurgical Works of Chelyabinsk (Mechel JSC). For instance, the plant will have to complete the construction of the extra continuous casting devices (it’ll cost nearly $50 million) in order to raise the steel production from 38 to 60% by 2007. The other projects have to do with the installation of a new cokery and renovation of rolling devices.
