27 February 2020 (09:10)

UrBC, Moscow, February 26, 2020. MegaFon is now Russia’s first telecom company to introduce the fifth-generation international roaming service. For those who use mobile Internet connection while traveling, this is an opportunity to compare the quality of 3G, 4G, and 5G options in action, the company’s press service reports.

MegaFon partners with Orange Group, a telecom business that operates in 23 different countries. Romania was the first country where the fifth-generation international roaming service was made available, but the company is already negotiating with other partners as well.

‘In the near future, our users going to other countries will be able to enjoy the super-fast mobile Internet connection without having to get a new SIM card. MegaFon currently supports several thousand 5G-enabled phones: these are advanced users who can now use their devices’ potential to the fullest when abroad,’ says CCO MegaFon Vlad Wolfson.

MegaFon’s customers can sign up for the fifth-generation network and enjoy super speeds on the same terms and conditions that apply to the 3G/4G networks.

Orange Romania relies on the C-Band n78 range (3.4-3.8 GHz) that most of the countries launching the 5G do support. You can connect to the network on the following smartphones: Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G, Huawei Mate 20 Х, Xiaomi Mi Mix3 5G, Vivo Nex3 5G, and other makes. Depending on the kind of device you’re using, you might have to switch to 5G and select Orange as your preferred network manually.

Now mobile Internet connection is the No.1 service MegaFon’s customers traveling internationally rely on. In 2019, the company’s international traffic increased by 2.5 times compared with the one year previously. 52% of MegaFon’s roaming data get processed in Europe.
