MegaFon, Huawei Set Connection Speed Record

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, June 2, 2017. The telecommunications provider MegaFon and Huawei set the absolute record of mobile Internet connection speed for Russia with their 5G network speed of 35 Gb/sec on the first day of Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, MegaFon Ural’s press service reports.

‘Exactly one year ago we were able to perform at just above 1 Gb/sec. It is symbolic that now we are back to Saint Petersburg Communications Museum with our new developments and an even greater 5G network speed. We can now state with confidence that the fifth-generation network is about to hit Russia soon. Russia is going to host the World Football Championship next year, and this is bound to be the fastest-connection World Cup ever. Everyone who happens to be in Moscow and Saint Petersburg at the time of the event will be able to enjoy a dramatically different experience thanks to MegaFon’s super-speed connection,’ says the company director Sergey Soldatenkov.

MegaFon and Huawei presented their 5G base station in action at the Saint Petersburg forum. To do this, they had to use the station’s TDD mode in 70GHz (E-Band) range with a 2GHz broadband.
