UrBC, Yekaterinburg, November 29, 2019. Activists from the ChelPipe Group-supported NGO Gorod Pervykh coordinated Gorod Pervykh Eco-Festival in Pervouralsk; more than 500 people took part in the event, the Group’s press service reports.

There event’s program covered recycling pickups, clothing and house plant swaps, and environmental workshops.

‘A recycling pickup station was set up on the festival site; this has already proved a popular event with the locals. Gorod Pervykh activists managed to collect over 800 kg of old newspapers and more than 100kg of plastic, cans, and glass items. Additionally, 1,200 old fluorescent lightbulbs and 55 mercury-in-glass thermometers got collected for recycling. ChelPipe Group’s Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant (PNTZ) supported the event financially to make the recycling of hazardous waste possible,’ the press service says.

Pervouralsk locals also brought in 1,500+ clothing and footwear pieces, accessories, and home decor items for Darmarka Swap. The festival also provided venues for book and house plant swaps and for environmental craft workshops on sewing reusable supermarket fruit/vegetable bags and reusable shoe covers, on cloth painting, and so on.

‘All funds raised through recycling (RUB 12,000 all in all) will get donated to Pervouralsk Animal Protection Society,’ says Gorod Pervykh coordinator Evgeny Krylov.
