Construction Minister Vladimir Yakushev to Join World Cities Day in Yekaterinburg

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 28, 2019. Russia’s Construction Minister Vladimir Yakushev is going to take part in the UN-Habitat World Cities Day celebrations in Yekaterinburg. Yakushev will give a talk on comprehensive urban development and new quality of urban life, the town council’s website states.

Plenipotentiary Representative of Russian Federation President in Ural Federal District Nikolai Tsukanov, China’s Deputy Minister for Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuivashev, and Mayor of Yekaterinburg Alexander Vysokinsky will also attend the event.

The United Nations’ Secretary-General António Guterres and the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif will also present their welcome addresses.

A presentation of the Shanghai Manual’s latest issue (featuring Mayor of Yekaterinburg Alexander Vysokinsky and the Executive Director of the UN-Habitat Maimunah Mohd Sharif) will take place directly after the plenary session.

Yekaterinburg will celebrate World Cities Day on October 30-31, 2019. According to the town council’s website, the goal is to draw the public’s attention to urban development issues and sustainable urban development, to support international cooperation, to contribute to the global efforts to build well-balanced, thriving, sustainable cities, and to improve the quality of people’s lives.

The solemn opening ceremony and the plenary session will take place at Yekaterinburg Expo’s Congress Hall from 10 AM to 11:20 AM on October 31.
