9 September 2019 (09:32)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, September 9, 2019. According to Global Destinations Cities Index, Yekaterinburg is among the world’s top two hundred cities frequented by tourists most often, the city council’s Information Policy Department reports.

Thailand’s Bangkok has stayed at the top of the rating for the fourth year in a row now; as for the Russian cities, Yekaterinburg only competes with Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, and Vladivostok.

Mayor of Yekaterinburg Alexander Vysokinsky believes the city fully deserved its status of a popular tourist destination.

‘Yekaterinburg has all the infrastructure and experience necessary to host large-scale international events. The recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS summits, the FIFA 2018 World Football Championship, the Innoprom International Exhibition and GMIS 2019 Forum are all great examples. All this definitely makes the place more appealing to tourists. Yekaterinburg is also going to host the World Cities Day in October, with delegations of experts coming from all over the world. The high-rise construction 100+ Forum Russia will also take place next month. All these international events promote Yekaterinburg as one of the global centers,’ Vysokinsky says.
