CentroTech to Supply Pipes to Bangladesh

1 October 2019 (09:26)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 1, 2019. Rosatom/TVEL’s Novouralsk-based member enterprise CentroTech completed the electropolishing of pipes meant for the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh.

The electropolishing was necessary to ensure additional corrosion resistance for the pipes that are part of the VVER-1200/523 reactor. The process got completed at electrolysis baths at CentroTech’s Electroplating Department. The pipes got submerged into the acid solution under voltage, the company explains.

Once the electropolishing process got fully completed, the pipes’ outer surfaces got thoroughly tested. The surfaces were inspected for burns, cracks, corrosion byproducts, and etchings; a surface analyzer was also used to test for smoothness. The tests indicated that the pipe surfaces meet all the requirements set out in the engineering documentation.

The pipes got shipped to Rosatom/Atomenergomash’s Atommash branch in Volgodonsk.
