UrBC, Yekaterinburg, September 24, 2019. EVRAZ West-Siberian Integrated Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ ZSMK) intends to invest RUB 1bn in building new, advanced lime kilns to ensure the plant has good quality raw materials to work with. The new kilns have been scheduled for launch in 2022, EVRAZ Holding Siberia’s Corporate Communications Center reports.
‘These up-to-date two-sectional kilns rely on a new technology: the heat resulting from the burning of natural gas gets directed from the first section of the kiln into the second one in order to pre-heat and dry up the limestone. This means the raw materials get calcinated without a drastic temperature increase, which improves the quality of lime produce considerably,’ the company says.
The estimated savings come to as much as RUB 400m a year thanks to reduced energy spending and lower maintenance costs. The new kilns are also significantly more environmentally friendly, as their sock filter appliances trap up to 99% of all the dust that accompanies the process.
‘EVRAZ ZSMK makes around 560,000,000 kg of lime a year at its calcination department; the product gets delivered onto the company’s sintering plant, where it is used to improve the quality of blast furnace sinter, and to the company’s converter shop, where it is used to remove the harmful particles of phosphorus and sulphur for better quality steel,’ EVRAZ representatives explain.
