Sverdlovsk Region: Police Warn Tinted-Window Cars Are Illegal

5 August 2019 (09:22)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 5, 2019. Sverdlovsk Region’s Federal Authority for Road Traffic Safety announced they would annul a vehicle registration of any vehicle that had been modified so as to no longer comply with the existing road safety norms and requirements, their press service reports.

The unauthorized modifications could include, but are not limited to, the following:

— tinted windows;
— lowered suspension;
— changes in the exhaust system.

A warrant gets issued for a vehicle with unauthorized modifications, and the owner is given ten days to bring the automobile in compliance with the safety regulations.

‘800 warrants have been issued in Yekaterinburg alone. However, some drivers fail to meet the police officers’ requirements, even though they could face penalties and even an administrative arrest (based on Article 19.3 of Russia’s Administrative Offense Code). Some of them keep on driving their cars as before, jeopardizing road safety,’ the press service says.

The police can now have the car owner’s vehicle registration annulled if a warrant has been issued in the past. The license plate number then gets entered into the stolen motor vehicle database and the license plate itself gets taken down and destroyed.
