MegaFon: Twice As Many Customers Get Smartphone Insurance

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, February 18, 2019. The number of smartphones which their owners get insured against mechanical or water damage and other accidents doubled at MegaFon Ural’s retail outlets last year. On average, one insurance policy got issued every hour, the company’s press service says.

Smartphones tend to get damaged mechanically after getting dropped on the floor, getting hit against something hard, or getting smashed by something heavy falling on top of them: these are the problems eight out of ten customers complain about. Water inside a smartphone is the second most popular complaint (some 10% of cases). In very rare instances, a smartphone gets damaged in the fire or through an electric shock.

‘A smartphone is perhaps the only device we carry with us at all times. So the chances of something happening to it are much higher. At our stores, you’ll find a selection of over 190 smartphone makes to choose from, as well as plenty of extra options and services, including insurance,’ says MegaFon Ural Mass Market Sales Director Alexander Malov.

Customers based in Surgut and Yekaterinburg get their smartphones insured more often than those living in other Ural locations. Nizhnevartovsk, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, and Novy Urengoy are also among the seven largest smartphone insurance markets in the area.
