14 January 2019 (09:24)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, January 14, 2019. MegaFon Ural’s mobile traffic increased by 1.5 times on December 31, 2018 compared with one year earlier, the company’s press service reports.
Local users mostly spent time on WhatsApp and Viber and grew very active after 6 PM on December 31; more than 70% of the company’s mobile traffic got delivered through 4G network; the amount of video content also rose by 3.5 times.
‘There’s no need to wait out to make your voice call or send an image or a video through a messenger app after midnight: the network is quite prepared to handle any amount of traffic, at any peak hour, including 12 AM on January 1. We take steps in advance to make sure the signal quality and the system capacity are even better than on a regular day. Our appliances did manage to process millions of messages on New Year’s Eve,’ says MegaFon Ural’s Tech Director Anton Scherbakov.
Also, the number of MegaFon Ural’s customers who went traveling for the winter break went up by 24% compared with one year earlier. Within Russia, Moscow and Kazan proved the most popular destinations, whereas abroad, the top countries were the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) and Thailand (a year earlier, the No.1 country to go to was Vietnam). The company’s registered users made three million calls to Russia from abroad on New Year’s Eve.
